General Tips & Tricks

It is possible to wear these dreadlocks for up to three months at a time. However, you need to bear in mind that your hair will grow a lot in this time. So the dreadlocks will come loose at the roots. Generally, 6-8 weeks of wear at a time is best.

Normal hair elastics are not strong enough to fit dreadlocks. In my experience, horse plaiting bands ( for manes and tails ) are the best. These can be bought online at Amazon and eBay quite cheap.

Some people to experience an itchy scalp, especially on the first installation. Now there's a spray that can be bought off Amazon to relieve the itch. But, my personal favourite is mixing a few tea tree essential oil drops into a spritz bottle with water.

Installation can take longer than you expect. So I'd personally suggest a full morning/afternoon to fit them.

When washing your dreadlocks I would suggest doing it in the morning ass they can take all day to dry. You can speed up the process by using a hairdryer. But don't be alarmed if they are still wet at bedtime. Dreadlocks are super heavy when wet so to avoid any unwanted tension on the scalp make sure to squeeze out as much water as possible. I personally wash my dreadlocks once a fortnight. However if you want to wash them more frequently that's fine too. Its just personal preference.

When removing your dreadlocks don't be freaked out when you see a lot of hair coming away. This is totally NORMAL! You naturally shed around 100-200 hairs a day but due to having dreadlocks fitted these aren't able to shed away form the plaits.

Finally, after you've removed your dreadlocks don't forget to give them a good detox wash. This can be done by placing them in boiling water for 5-10 minutes. I like to add some essential oils just for fragrance. This process ensures they are thoroughly cleansed and just tightens the fibres. Once you've done this. hang them to dry. Once dried they'll be fresh and ready to be used again and again.
